Sieze the Summer!

This summer I'm going to do something great! I'm going to grow a garden!

Easy? Right?
It can be easy if you make it that way, but sticking to simple and enjoyable has always been a challenge for me. I get these great plans, like a garden, and in my mind i build them into these grandiose dreams and visions... which require lots of work.  Thankfully, as mentioned in a previous blog, i have a great husband who keeps me in check!

Let me give you an example, here is my planting list for my garden: basil, lavender, oregano, chives, green onion, yellow onion, tomato, pepper, eggplant, sweet corn, cucumber, lettuce, radish, zucchini... i think that's all. so you see, my small garden has turned into quite a lot... well luckily my husband is supervising the whole thing. i might have a lot of different veggies to plant, but we are doing them in small quantities... and besides, my reputation with growing things isn't exactly on a green streak... ask my mom and sister about the cactus.... it is no longer with us!

so anyways, I've started the indoor plants like i was supposed to & now they look great.... but what happens when i put them outside? i will probably water them too much or too little and end up with them dead. Which is why i opted to start from seeds (probably harder), they are cheaper to kill than buying a plant and ending up with it dead.

Aside from this garden I've also spent lots of time working on the yard in general. With a little help from said husband i have put in a new edger and rock all around our house, and after i finish this post i am headed out to start around the garage. Man does my house look good, i don't think I've been this proud of myself in a long time! Oh YEAH!

Of course, its been a lot of work and sore muscles... but man it was fun! Working so hard and then seeing the results... but the edging is a faster reward than the veggies... my patience wears out waiting on things to grow. So, i also decided to plant some flowers, seeds and plants. So, like the veggie seeds I haven't seen anything grow yet..... grrrrr.... but that's why i also bought some plants. A Gerber pot! Yay! And some other flowers for the front of the house and my planter. I look like a regular green thumb, well sorta.

Anyways, my small garden has turned into dreams of whipping up a fantastic new pasta dish where i run to the garden to snip some fresh basil to toss in as a finishing touch... yup a regular Giada! Or roasting off fresh stuffed peppers with flavors from my garden as my husband turns juicy steaks on the grill, hello Pioneer Woman! I'm sure we'll eat these dishes, just where the produce comes from may not be disclosed... well, when nothing grows my husband might figure it out.

Whatever the outcome, I'm going to enjoy myself trying to grow something. So if you are looking for Heather, me, this summer you should probably just come round back. I'll be there... in my floppy sun hat, muck shoes, over sized sunglasses, in my pink garden gloves working away, getting a tan, and hopefully weeding a glorious garden!
PS... i garden in an ac/dc shirt.... my husband loves it!
